One would have thought that as of January 20th, 2009, our country had entered a New Age of politics, led by President Obama--or certainly so it seemed if you went by most of the major news media outlets.

So, I am continually amazed at how well our new government does things now. How about that stimulus bill? something like 1400 pages, and of course no one knew what the hell was in it. Apparently the pending health care reform bill is the same way. And don't try and call it "government-run health care" or Congress will get mad at you.

Does anyone have anything to say about this? You know, like "we're trying to change things for the better?" Not exactly. Here's John Conyers, Democrat from Michigan:
“I love these members, they get up and say, ‘Read the bill,’” said Conyers. “What good is reading the bill if it’s a thousand pages and you don’t have two days and two lawyers to find out what it means after you read the bill?”

Yeah--WHAT GOOD IS THAT?

Obama promised in his campaign that his administration was going to be so transparent, and specifically, there would be 5 days of public display of any legislation before he signed it into law. This promise was quickly discarded early in his Administration.

Yet what did Obama once carp about the Bush presidency? Here he is on "Air America" (remember those guys?) with Randi Rhodes (another "whatever happened to her" entry--did she get mugged again, or what?) from November of 2004:
BARACK OBAMA: ...When you rush these budgets that are a foot high and nobody has any idea what's in them and nobody has read them.
RANDI RHODES: 14 pounds it was!
BARACK OBAMA: Yeah. And it gets rushed through without any clear deliberation or debate then these kinds of things happen. And I think that this is in some ways what happened to the Patriot Act. I mean you remember that there was no real debate about that. It was so quick after 9/11 that it was introduced that people felt very intimidated by the administration.

No word from the White House about this failed aspect of hope and change.

Probably too busy drinking beer with Skip Gates and that stupid rogue cop.

I am so glad that you are taking the lead on this.

I've been busy lately, but I did catch a few minutes if Hannity today and this country is, in fact, going completely to hell. We have a militant black radical in the white house and everybody who voted for him is filled with regret, just as he predicted. We were such fools.

Somehow the stimulus bill, which again proclaimed a complete failure, except for the part of it that that Bobby Jindal tried to give back, changed his mind and then had a giant sweepstakes sized check printed with his signature. This is the same money that helped plug a major whole in the Louisiana budget, that has helped fund Louisiana education and healthcare (and much more) this and next year. It is the same money pot that has paid Louisiana over 440 million dollars with almost 2.5 billion left to be spent. Epic Failure, indeed.

When Republicans pushed through gigantic unread bills it was wonderful, and anyone that spoke in any way against them was suffering from a case of Bush Derangement Syndrome, and hated America. Now hating the president is the coolest thing ever, protesting in the streets is no longer the providence of those dirty hippies that tried to stop people from dying in Iraq -- it's now for Country music loving fans that are protesting tax cuts for themselves.

Questioning whether there were WMD's meant that you hated America, but now bragging about seceding is totally patriotic.

No one demanded to see the birth certificate of the retarded person who ran around the country with a cowboy hat and fake Texas accent, but was apparently born somewhere called Connecticut (is that really even a place?), but we can't seem to get the Republican leaders to let this go.

I leave you with a direct quote from Sarah Plain, who (if there is a God on our 6000 year old Earth) will be our President in 2012: "And getting up here I say it is the best road trip in America soaring through nature's finest show. Denali, the great one, soaring under the midnight sun. And then the extremes. In the winter time it's the frozen road that is competing with the view of ice fogged frigid beauty, the cold though, doesn't it split the Cheechakos from the Sourdoughs?

And then in the summertime such extreme summertime about a hundred and fifty degrees hotter than just some months ago, than just some months from now, with fireweed blooming along the frost heaves and merciless rivers that are rushing and carving and reminding us that here, Mother Nature wins. It is as throughout all Alaska that big wild good life teeming along the road that is north to the future.

Trig’s Creator, Your Heavenly Father"

Also: white people marching against tax cuts (again, for themselves) should not be hassled by the man, but uppity black people that mouth off to cops in there own home should be taken directly to jail -- unless there's no one around, in that case they should just be shot, 41 times.

Let us attempt to dissect your points one at a time. BTW, I rarely watch or listen to Hannity anymore, and maybe not everyone regrets their Obama vote, but those approval numbers are falling, and it’s not because of Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh.

I’m not saying the stimulus bill was a failure, but 1) it was pushed through with an almost hysterical sense of urgency, yet 2) six months later, only a small amount has been spent. So are you saying our economy is in great shape? Some new unemployment numbers will be coming out in a few days--THOSE stats should be interesting.

No, when Republicans pushed through unread bills it was not wonderful, but my point was that if that was the Bush way of doing things, why is Obama continuing this? Funny also how those dirty hippies don’t seem to care about people dying in Afghanistan. Are you saying it was okay to protest against Bush but not Obama? If you questioned WMD, you were also questioning Bill Clinton and numerous Democratic members of Congress who swore for YEARS that there were WMD’s in Iraq.

The Nirthers are loons, and I suspect that the vast majority of folks on my side of the aisle feel the same way as I do. The Republican leaders aren’t behind the birth certificate controversy, but Lou Dobbs is (and BTW he doesn’t work for Fox, but another network which weCshallNnotNname).

I have been very respectful of President Obama on this blog. Yet, while you discount the whole Bush Derangement Syndrome thing, you refer to him as “retarded.” But that’s okay--that’s how the Dems refer to mentally challenged people in their wonderful healthcare bill.

If you have proof that Palin is a Young Earth Creationist, I’d like to see it. The people who are protesting against taxes (tax cuts?) are not all of the same race--where did you get that from? As far as mouthing off at a cop, it’s probably something you should never do, no matter what skin color you are or what status you may hold (“Do you know who you are dealing with?” is from Skip’s mouth, not Officer Crowley’s). Are there bad, “racist,“ “rogue” cops (again, Skip’s words) out there? You bet. This one wasn’t. Maybe the professor engaged in a little profiling himself. But that’s okay, you know, being oppressed and all . . .

"The Nirthers are loons, and I suspect that the vast majority of folks on my side of the aisle feel the same way as I do...."

First of all what the hell is a Nirther, second of all, here are the results of a brand new poll:

Overall, 77% of Americans believe President Obama was born in the United States, 11% do not, and 12% are not sure.

Among Republicans only, 42% think he's an American citizen, 28% do not, and 30% are not sure.

Among Republicans I would like to see a further breakdown of how many believe the Earth is 6000 years old, wouldn't you? These are the people who will be taking back our fine Country, brother!
